Bob Ferguson, Washington’s governor, has received low approval ratings during his first six months in office. According to a recent poll, fewer than one in three registered voters rated his performance as “excellent” or “good.” This marks the lowest approval for a new governor in the state in more than three decades.

A new incident may impact Ferguson’s standing further. A female inmate at the Washington Corrections Center for Women reported being assaulted by a male inmate who was placed in the women’s facility under a gender identity policy supported by Ferguson. The male inmate, Christopher Scott Williams, is six-foot-four and has a documented history of both physical and sexual assaults against females, including an offense committed as a juvenile against his younger sister.

The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has responded by threatening legal action against the Washington Department of Corrections and the Washington Corrections Center for Women. In an August 13 letter, AFPI demanded that officials “take immediate and concrete measures to protect the females in your custody” by revoking the Transgender Inmate Policy and removing all biological males from the facility.

AFPI also posted an audio recording from the alleged victim describing the August 7 assault involving Williams. Leigh Ann O’Neill, senior attorney at AFPI, told Just the News: “She is an entire foot shorter than the male who attacked her.” O’Neill explained that only portions of a roughly 20-minute recording were released—specifically those detailing what happened with Williams.

Williams reportedly pleaded guilty to “third-degree assault with sexual motivation” when he was 16 years old and later had two convictions for failing to register as a sex offender.
