Pablo José Hernández, Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, responded to the Supreme Court’s recent decision that invalidated tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump.
In his statement, Hernández said: “Los aranceles de Trump empeoraron el costo de vida para millones de estadounidenses y puertorriqueños. La decisión del Tribunal Supremo es un triunfo para los consumidores, la economía, y sobre todo, nuestro sistema de ley y orden” (“Trump’s tariffs worsened the cost of living for millions of Americans and Puerto Ricans. The Supreme Court’s decision is a victory for consumers, the economy, and above all, our system of law and order”).
The Supreme Court ruling removes trade restrictions that had increased costs on goods imported into the United States and its territories. These tariffs were originally introduced during Trump’s presidency as part of broader trade policies affecting various sectors.
The decision is expected to have an impact on consumer prices in Puerto Rico and across the United States by potentially lowering costs related to imported products.
