After months of effort, President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” was signed into law on the Fourth of July. The signing ceremony featured a flyover by B2 Bombers and fighter jets while the National Anthem played. Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune were among those celebrating this achievement. The House Freedom Caucus played a key role in shaping the legislation to align with their priorities. Currently, the House is not in session, but the Senate is working on nominations, Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations markups, and preparations for an upcoming vote on a rescissions package. Speaker Johnson has indicated plans for two additional reconciliation bills.

Meanwhile, Texas faced severe challenges due to natural disasters and violence. On July 4th, heavy rainfall led to flash floods in the hill country region of Texas, particularly affecting Kerrville and Camp Mystic along the Guadalupe River. Over 100 people died, including many children, with several still missing across multiple counties. Disaster declarations have been made by state and federal governments, and President Trump is expected to visit the affected areas soon.

In Alvarado, Texas, an attack occurred at an ICE detention facility involving ANTIFA-affiliated individuals who injured one officer before being arrested. Another incident in McAllen involved a shooter attacking a border patrol facility and injuring an officer before being killed by police. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated: “The Department has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible.” There is no confirmation yet if these attacks are related; however, deportation efforts continue unabated as federal authorities conduct operations in Los Angeles targeting illegal immigrant criminals.
