In a recent poll released by Club for Growth, there is substantial bipartisan support for federal school freedom legislation. The poll indicates that 73% of both Republicans and Democrats are in favor of such measures. Furthermore, a majority of Republicans (87%) and Democrats (79%) expressed support for school freedom initiatives.

These findings coincide with the introduction of the Universal School Choice Act by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). This legislation proposes up to $10 billion annually in federal tax credits for individuals and businesses contributing to non-profit education scholarship funds for K-12 students. Ross O’Keefe from the Washington Examiner reported on these results.

Club for Growth President David McIntosh commented on the poll results, stating, “Our latest poll confirmed what we already knew: school freedom isn’t just good policy, it’s a winning issue politically.” He emphasized the need for Republicans to support Senator Cruz’s legislation as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to gain momentum ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The survey was conducted by Republican pollster McLaughlin & Associates on behalf of Club for Growth, polling 1,000 likely voters online between June 9 and June 11. It revealed that 82% of respondents believe in school choice, with 70% supporting related tax credit legislation.

The data also shows strong bipartisan agreement on school choice legislation, with slightly higher support among Republicans. Specifically, 87% of Republicans back school choice compared to 79% of Democrats and Independents. Support among parents of K-12 students is notably high, with 81% supporting legislation and 87% endorsing school choice.

Senator Ted Cruz’s Universal School Choice Act aims to provide significant federal tax credits for contributions to nonprofit organizations that grant scholarships supporting educational opportunities.
