Members of the media are invited to attend “Her Game. Her Legacy.” on June 23 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The event is hosted by Independent Women to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of Title IX. Guest speakers will include athletes and coaches advocating for women’s sports, such as Payton McNabb, Linnea Saltz, and Kim Russell. Attendees are encouraged to wear athletic jerseys to honor Title IX’s legacy.
The event will take place at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Pavilion from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with formal programming starting at 3:00 p.m. A press gaggle and Q&A session will follow the remarks.
“Her Game. Her Legacy.” aims to honor female athletes nationwide and highlight the impact of Title IX. Independent Women will recognize the Trump administration’s efforts in restoring Title IX’s original intent and begin National Women’s Sports Week with a bus tour across New Mexico.
National Women’s Sports Week, founded by Independent Women in 2022, celebrates female athletes for their achievements in sport. Senator Joni Ernst and Representative Claudia Tenney are expected to reintroduce a resolution recognizing this week in Congress.
Recently, there has been a national movement advocating for women’s sports protection. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 5 addressing this issue, alongside investigations by the Department of Education into compliance with Title IX.
Twenty-eight states have enacted laws protecting women’s sports by prohibiting male athletes from competing in female-designated programs. Sixteen states have adopted sex-based definitions of “woman” and “female.” However, New Mexico continues to promote policies that some argue undermine equal opportunity in sports.
Eighty-four percent of New Mexicans support protecting single-sex spaces. The “Her Game. Her Legacy.” event and bus tour aim to address policy issues affecting women and girls in New Mexico.
The event will feature interactive activities, prizes, and remarks from advocates leading the movement to protect women’s sports. Special guests include Payton McNabb, Linnea Saltz, Coach Kim Russell, among others.
