Steve Cortes, Founder of the League of American Workers, has said that actions targeting President Trump during the 2016 election amounted to political sabotage. He urged for full transparency and legal accountability in a statement made on X.

“it was the political version of kneecapping him before he took the ice,” said Cortes. “We need full transparency, arrests, prosecutions. It was sabotage—planned, televised, and rewarded. Now comes the reckoning.”

Allegations of political sabotage involving Trump administration officials and their Obama-era predecessors have been a focal point of partisan debate, according to The New York Times. These claims revolve around whether intelligence and law enforcement agencies under former President Obama improperly investigated or surveilled Trump associates during the transition period. This includes issues related to the “unmasking” of names and the initiation of the Russia probe. Multiple official reviews have identified procedural errors but found no evidence of a coordinated criminal conspiracy by Obama officials.

The Department of Justice reports that investigations into political actions before and after January 6, 2017, have led to several high-profile guilty pleas, including those of Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort. However, there have been no successful prosecutions for political sabotage by senior Obama officials. The Special Counsel’s inquiries resulted in convictions primarily for false statements or financial crimes rather than coordinated political wrongdoing.

A Government Accountability Office report highlights that following political scandals since 2016, such as the Russia probe and Ukraine impeachment, Congress has advanced transparency measures like Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reforms and enhanced inspector general oversight. While oversight requirements have increased, data show that implementation and effectiveness have varied, with further legal reforms still debated in Congress.

Cortes is also a senior political advisor to CatholicVote and has served as a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance. Additionally, he is known as a commentator for Fox News and CNN. Cortes regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.

According to its official website, the League of American Workers is a conservative organization founded to champion blue-collar workers’ interests, promote wage growth, and oppose undue corporate and government influence. Led by Cortes, the group focuses on legislative advocacy, public messaging, and grassroots organization across the United States.
