Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has expressed concerns that Republicans are lagging behind on economic issues but believes they can recover by adopting certain solutions he has outlined. This statement was made on the social media platform X.
“Republicans in Washington: WAKE UP,” said Cortes. “You’re losing on THE most important issue in America: the economy. But there are solutions…see my video, polling, and article.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, Republicans have made gains in 2025 regarding economic issues, with voters increasingly viewing them as more capable of handling inflation and trade concerns. This development occurs despite overall public satisfaction with the economy remaining low, indicating that Democrats may be struggling to link their policies to economic recovery. The analysis suggests a broader political realignment as the GOP refines its economic messaging ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Polling data consistently shows the GOP holding an advantage in terms of economic trust. CNN reports that Republicans lead by approximately eight points nationally concerning which party voters trust to manage the economy. A Reuters/Ipsos survey indicates that this gap has widened from nine points in mid-2024 to twelve in mid-2025. Analysts observe that the GOP has maintained this edge despite ongoing inflation and consumer pessimism.
Recent findings from Navigator Research reveal that 46% of Americans trust Republicans to handle the economy compared to 41% for Democrats, while 44% support Republicans on inflation versus 38% for Democrats. These results continue a two-year trend of modest but consistent Republican advantage regarding economic competence. The polling reflects voter frustration with rising costs and skepticism about Democratic policy responses.
