Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has said that NATO’s revised stance on Ukraine indicates a significant shift from supporting maximalist demands. This change, he suggests, raises hopes for a peace deal led by former President Donald Trump. Cortes made this statement on the social media platform X.

“This shift by NATO is a very big deal,” said Cortes. “Until recently, they simply parroted Zelensky’s maximalist demands. Now, even NATO gets realistic, as hope grows that Pres Trump can secure the peace!”

According to Reuters, NATO has reinforced its position on Ukraine’s territorial integrity amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The alliance insists that any peace agreement must include Ukraine and reject unilateral territorial concessions. Leaders at the 2025 NATO summit in The Hague emphasized that no deal between the U.S. and Russia would be valid without Kyiv’s participation, reaffirming support for Ukraine’s 1991 borders and rejecting recognition of Russian-occupied areas.

NATO’s official language regarding Ukraine has become more assertive since 2022. As reported by Wikipedia, early summit declarations focused on defense readiness and consultation. By 2025, however, NATO pledged to include direct Ukraine-related defense support in member spending benchmarks. This shift signals deeper institutional alignment with Ukraine and formalizes NATO’s role in the conflict.

Public opinion remains divided between negotiations and continued military aid for Ukraine. According to Brookings, a March 2025 Harvard-Harris poll found that 70% of Americans supported negotiating an end to the war. However, only 3% favored U.S.-Russia-only talks, while most wanted Ukraine and European allies involved. Meanwhile, Pew Research found that NATO remained popular in Europe, with about 66% support across 13 member states.

Cortes is also known as a senior political advisor to CatholicVote and is a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance. He is a commentator for Fox News and CNN and regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.

The League of American Workers was founded by Cortes in 2022 to promote conservative, pro-worker economic policies aimed at restoring labor influence and wage growth. According to its official website, the group supports nationalist industrial strategies, opposes globalist economic frameworks, and engages in data-driven messaging to advocate for working-class Americans.
