Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, expressed concerns about U.S. military readiness for a potential conflict with China. He criticized national security priorities in a statement made on X.

“Despite massive expenditures, is the US Military ready for a conflict with China,” said Cortes. “Have DC national security officials been focused on woke nonsense, instead of tech & lethality? See this Restoration of America report, and the website http://RestoreTheMilitary.com.”

Recent expert assessments, as reported by The Wall Street Journal in mid-2025, highlight ongoing critical gaps in U.S. military preparedness for conflict with China. Analysts point to shortages in munitions and naval resources, as well as slow progress in modernizing weapons systems, despite new defense initiatives gaining momentum.

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, U.S. defense spending reached nearly $900 billion in 2025. This includes over $100 billion allocated to advanced technologies, missile defense, and lethality improvements aimed at countering Chinese military advancements.

The Congressional Budget Office reports that while U.S. military readiness has improved in cyber and space domains over the past five years, challenges persist in recruitment, equipment modernization, and overall deployable force strength.

Cortes is also known as a senior political advisor to CatholicVote and a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance. He contributes as a commentator for Fox News and CNN and regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.

According to its official website, the League of American Workers was established in 2022 to advocate for strong defense spending, robust military readiness, and national security policies that prioritize American workers.
