Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said that domestic policy gains such as enhanced border security outweigh concerns about U.S. relations with Israel. The statement was made on X.
“Totally agreed,” said Cortes. “The US should not trust Netanyahu, at all. BUT…these issues are minor compared to the massive domestic wins, especially securing the border, which is saving our country…”
U.S.–Israel relations have become strained due to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies in Gaza, including his approval of a full-scale operation in Gaza City. According to The Guardian, these actions have faced internal Israeli military resistance and widespread international criticism, affecting Israel’s image abroad and drawing warnings from American officials about potential war crimes and long-term regional destabilization. This controversy reflects a growing diplomatic rift with implications for military aid and U.S. Middle East policy.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were just 8,725 illegal crossings at the southwest border in May 2025, a decrease of 93% from 117,905 in May 2024. This marked one of the lowest monthly totals in decades, continuing a trend of record-low encounters. In July 2025, arrests dropped further to 4,598, averaging only 148 per day across the entire southern border.
Despite increased investment, U.S. border enforcement staffing remains below target. Reports from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and congressional testimony indicate that CBP staffing includes over 45,000 law enforcement personnel; however, persistent hiring gaps continue. For Fiscal Year 2026, the Biden administration requested $239 million to fund an additional 1,000 CBP officers, 240 agriculture specialists, and 200 technicians.
Cortes is also known as a senior political advisor to CatholicVote and a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance. He has worked as a commentator for Fox News and CNN and regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.
The League of American Workers was founded by Cortes in 2022 as a conservative advocacy group focused on advancing pro-worker and “America First” economic policies. According to the group’s official website, it aims to empower blue-collar Americans through political messaging, policy advocacy, and public education campaigns targeting wage stagnation and labor market instability.
