Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie and Congressman Bob Latta announced a hearing titled “The Fiscal Year 2026 Department of Energy Budget.” The event will be held at the Rayburn House Office Building and is open to the public and press. It will also be livestreamed on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website.
Chairmen Guthrie and Latta said, “Under President Trump and Secretary Wright, we have begun to once again unleash American energy.” They highlighted the importance of meeting energy demands while securing the grid. The hearing aims to discuss steps for producing abundant, reliable, and affordable energy.
Key priorities in Secretary Christopher Wright’s testimony include resuming LNG export permits, rolling back regulations to lower consumer costs, and terminating projects deemed economically unviable. Nuclear energy expansion is supported with proposals for reopening plants and funding advanced reactors.
Wright committed to refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after a significant drawdown. He announced the Doudna supercomputer project with NVIDIA/Dell to lead in AI and high-performance computing. Efforts are being made to streamline permitting processes for energy projects and reduce reliance on foreign minerals.
The FY2026 budget includes $46.3 billion in discretionary spending. Highlights include funding for nuclear security, science research in fusion, quantum computing, AI, environmental management, and cuts from renewable energy initiatives.
Wright emphasized prioritizing “energy addition” over transition by focusing on affordability, security, and U.S. leadership in critical technologies.
