Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has called for increased scrutiny on policymakers and Uber following the arrest of a Miami-area Uber driver in a case involving a minor. Cortes described the incident as a “totally preventable tragedy” and questioned the safety measures implemented by the company.
“Have you had enough of these kinds of totally preventable tragedies,” said Cortes. “A child’s life, permanently scarred…all to conform to a radical Dem narrative of open borders. Also, what is the role of Uber here? Was his legal status checked by the company???”
According to local reports from South Florida, Jose Miguel Perez-Molina, an Uber driver from North Miami Beach, was arrested in early December 2025. The charges relate to alleged conduct involving a teenage passenger who had requested a ride through Uber’s teen feature. Police and court records confirm these details.
Uber’s “Uber for teens” service is designed for users aged 13–17 under a family profile. The company states that this service includes built-in safety features that cannot be disabled during teen trips. These features include Live Trip Tracking for guardians, PIN verification, and RideCheck alerts for long stops or potential crashes.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “immigration detainer,” often referred to as an ICE hold, is described by ICE as a request to law enforcement agencies to notify them before releasing an individual. In some cases, it also asks agencies to maintain custody temporarily so ICE can assume custody according to applicable laws and procedures.
