Scott Walter recently appeared before the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During his testimony, he addressed concerns regarding the nonprofit sector in America.

Walter stated, “Americans are proud of our nonprofit sector, which has long led the world, because they love real charities that actually help people here and abroad.” He emphasized that the public does not view nonprofits as tools for billionaires and politicians.

He expressed concern about many Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), suggesting they function more like “Basically Government Organizations” (BGOs). Walter cited two main reasons for this: NGOs often receive most of their funding from government sources rather than citizens, and they tend to support a political agenda aimed at centralizing power in Washington, which he believes benefits a particular political party.
