Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández announced on March 16 that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1,367,326 in federal funds to the Puerto Rico Department of Health to support maternal and child health services.

The funding aims to strengthen healthcare for mothers, infants, and families across Puerto Rico by expanding access to essential services. The grant is administered through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

“This investment strengthens maternal and child health services in Puerto Rico and will help ensure that mothers, babies, and families have access to the care they need. I will continue working in Washington to ensure that Puerto Rico receives the federal resources it deserves,” Hernández said.

According to Hernández, these funds will support efforts by the Puerto Rico Department of Health to improve and expand programs targeting mothers, newborns, children, and families on the island. The grant is expected to bolster public health initiatives focused on this population.

The announcement reflects ongoing efforts by local officials to secure federal support for healthcare programs in Puerto Rico. Observers may expect further developments as authorities continue advocating for additional resources.
