Rep. Aumua Amata, Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from American Samoa, announced on July 31, 2025, that the House passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 4275) with significant bipartisan support. The series of posts outlined both the content and implications of this legislative measure.
In her first post on July 31, Amata stated, “The House passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 4275) with strong bipartisan support: 399–12. This major bill funds the @USCG through FY2029 and boosts its mission to protect borders, ensure maritime safety & fight illegal trafficking.” She noted that the legislation will provide funding for the United States Coast Guard through fiscal year 2029 and strengthen its core missions.
Her follow-up message on July 31 elaborated further: “The bill improves acquisition, shipbuilding, safety, and support for Coast Guard members. It advances tech innovation and cracks down on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing across U.S. waters.”
In a third post made minutes later, Rep. Amata highlighted her advocacy efforts specific to her constituency: “I’m advocating for American Samoa to be considered as a new Coast Guard home port. Our harbor is ideal and signals strong U.S. commitment to the Pacific. A full port assessment is the right step forward.”
Rep. Amata has served as American Samoa’s delegate since 2015 and is known for promoting issues related to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
