Pablo José Hernández, Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, released a statement following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.

“This evening should have been a call for unity. The lack of seriousness, decency, and civility in the state message is unfortunately no longer surprising.

The message lacked concrete proposals to address issues such as the cost of living, health care, and energy. Instead, there were attacks and mockery directed at political opposition and much of the American nation.

I fulfilled my duty to attend and took the opportunity to speak with the chairman of the committee with jurisdiction over Medicaid funds, with senators about FEMA, and with several colleagues regarding an effort in favor of Medicare Advantage. Because my priority is Puerto Rico.”
