Professor Roger Colinvaux of Catholic Law has joined a newly formed expert panel aimed at protecting the independence of nonprofit organizations, according to an April 2 announcement by Independent Sector President and CEO Dr. Akilah Watkins.

The creation of the Panel on Sector Independence is intended to help ensure that nonprofits can operate freely and pursue their missions with effective self-governance. The group consists of 24 experts from charities, philanthropies, and universities who will develop recommendations to shield nonprofits from undue outside influence.

Colinvaux brings legal expertise to the project and has participated in important policy discussions concerning tax-exempt organizations. In March, he was part of the “Reconsidering Bob Jones: Public Policy, Illegality, and DEI” panel at UCLA’s 29th Western Conference on Tax-Exempt Organizations.

Watkins said that nonprofits play a vital role in bringing people together and offering everyone an opportunity to support their communities and make a difference. She announced that the new panel will work collaboratively to protect these organizations’ ability to continue their important work.

More information about Professor Colinvaux’s areas of specialty can be found on his faculty page.
