The Pennsylvania Chapter of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI-PA) has expressed support for a discharge resolution that aims to bring Senate Bill 9 (SB9), known as the Save Women’s Sports Act, out of the House Education Committee for a vote on the full House floor. This legislation, which received bipartisan backing in the Pennsylvania Senate, seeks to maintain fairness and safety in women’s and girls’ sports within the state.

SB9 focuses on ensuring that biological women and girls compete on equal terms without facing physiological disadvantages from male competitors. Female athletes such as Paula Scanlon, Emily Kreps, and Lily Williams have shared their experiences at the State Capitol, highlighting how unfair competition with biological males has affected them emotionally and impacted their privacy and opportunities. Their testimonies emphasize the need for this legislation, which appeals to Pennsylvanians across political lines.

The bipartisan coalition of Senate leaders who supported SB9 is praised by AFPI-PA for acknowledging biological differences affecting athletic performance. The Senate’s actions are seen as a clear message that protecting women’s sports is based on common sense and fairness.

AFPI-PA criticizes the House Education Committee’s decision to block SB9 despite significant public support addressing harm faced by female athletes in Pennsylvania. Since 2020, girls have lost placements in various events statewide. Incidents like Payton McNabb’s severe injury during a 2022 volleyball match underscore physical risks associated with not acting on these concerns.

The organization emphasizes that Pennsylvania must prioritize safety, privacy, and opportunities for biological women over political considerations. It calls upon state leaders to uphold Title IX progress achieved by generations of women.

The America First Policy Institute aligns itself with PA Family Council, affected athletes, and advocates across Pennsylvania in urging support for Title IX protections. They stress that now is the time to safeguard women’s sports so every girl can compete fairly in a secure environment.
