The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said that comments by former CIA Director John Brennan suggest that bureaucrats within the intelligence and law enforcement apparatus are resisting President Donald Trump and his administration.

“The same CIA Director who pushed the Russia collusion hoax for years is now openly admitting there are still bureaucrats inside the Intelligence Community and DOJ working against a duly elected President,” according to a May 12 post on X by the ODNI. “The Deep State was never a conspiracy theory.”

The ODNI post included a video clip of Brennan discussing what he described as career officials within the intelligence and law enforcement communities who oppose what they view as politically motivated actions.

“There’s still a legion of professionals in the law enforcement environment, the Department of Justice, as well as the CIA and other places, the ones who are refusing to follow politically motivated prosecutions, those who are refusing to support any type of political activities on the part of the Trump administration that are inconsistent with the authorities, the responsibilities of the intelligence community, law enforcement community, and Department of Justice,” Brennan said in the interview.

Brennan made the comments in response to a question describing internal safeguards against what the question characterized as the politicization of the DOJ and FBI.

“Unbelievable. Former CIA Director John Brennan just said the quiet part out LOUD, that there are still a ‘legion’ of bureaucrats within the intel and justice communities who are actively sabotaging the executive authority of President Trump,” said Andrew Kolvet, spokesman for Turning Point USA in a May 11 post on X. “Interesting use of the word ‘legion’ there… Real rich coming from the very man who politicized the intelligence community against President Trump.”

John Brennan, who served as CIA director under former President Barack Obama, has been a frequent critic of President Donald Trump and has defended the intelligence community’s handling of the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to The Guardian.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) is the U.S. federal agency responsible for overseeing and integrating the activities of the nation’s Intelligence Community, which includes agencies such as the CIA, NSA, FBI intelligence elements, and others. It is led by the Director of National Intelligence, a Cabinet-level official who serves as the principal intelligence adviser to the president and coordinates intelligence policy, analysis, and information sharing across agencies. Tulsi Gabbard currently serves as Director of National Intelligence.
