Narrative Strategies announced on Mar. 12 that Chris Bissex, a former senior official at the Federal Trade Commission, has joined the firm as managing director. Bissex previously served as the FTC’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, where he led communications strategies for issues such as mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, consumer protections, data privacy, and fraud.

The appointment is significant due to increasing regulatory scrutiny in areas like antitrust enforcement and data privacy. Companies are facing more aggressive actions from regulators, making experienced guidance essential.

“In today’s environment, antitrust scrutiny, consumer protection enforcement, and data privacy present significantly increased risk for companies,” said Ken Spain, CEO and Founding Partner of Narrative. “Regulators are moving faster, acting more aggressively, and shaping the narrative long before taking any formal action. Chris has been in the room for those decisions, and his perspective will be invaluable to clients. Whether we are helping a client navigate a merger review, consumer protection exposure, data security investigation, or engage with regulators on competition policy, his experience gives us a decisive edge in shaping strategy, crafting messaging, and advising on the timing and tone of public communications.”

Before joining the FTC, Bissex was Associate Vice President of Research Solutions at Morning Consult in Washington D.C., where he advised senior executives on crisis communications and reputation management. He also worked at Hanover Research and the Koch Foundation applying research insights to real-world challenges.

Bissex has taught courses on campaigns and political institutions at Baylor University and the College of the Holy Cross. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Aquinas College and earned a Ph.D. in political science from Baylor.

The addition of Bissex reflects Narrative Strategies’ focus on providing expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments.
