Steve Cortes, president of the League of American Workers, said on May 15 that recent U.S. military action in the Middle East was not presented to the American public before intervention began.
“This Mideast war was not sold to the American people before the interventionism,” Cortes said in an X post that included a clip from his May 14 appearance on NewsNation’s On Balance with Leland Vittert. “George W. Bush was a horrific president, but he had the decency to sell the Iraq War fully to the people before it started.”
The U.S. war on Iran had cost about $29 billion by May 12, including updated repair and replacement of equipment costs and operational costs, according to Pentagon officials cited by The Guardian.
Hostilities and ceasefire negotiations continued amid disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and regional activity. The naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remained a point of tension after the ceasefire, according to USA Today.
Cortes founded the League of American Workers, which aims to improve public policy for workers. He joined CatholicVote as senior political advisor after working in financial markets and serving in advisory roles during Trump campaigns, according to CatholicVote.
