Steve Cortes, president of the League of American Workers, said Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh faces significant challenges as he succeeds Jerome Powell.

“Washington’s worst job. Kevin Warsh walks into a buzzsaw as he inherits a mess from corrupt, dishonest, failed Jerome Powell,” Cortes wrote in a May 27 post on X. “Can Chairman Kevin restore Fed credibility and fight resurgent inflation?”

Cortes made the statement in a post about the Federal Reserve leadership transition after Warsh became chairman. The post focused on inflation, public confidence in the Fed, and the challenges facing Warsh as he begins his tenure.

Dallas Fed researchers said high inflation disproportionately hurts low-income households because they spend more of their income on necessities such as food, gas, and rent. The researchers also said low-income households have fewer ways to reduce spending, buy in bulk, or delay purchases when prices rise.

The Joint Economic Committee Republicans reported in September 2024 that incomes had risen more slowly than prices since January 2021 after accounting for multiple measures of income. The report said the trend reduced purchasing power for working families.

The League of American Workers advocates on behalf of American workers and focuses on public policy issues affecting laborers. Founder and President Steve Cortes leads the organization’s pro-worker policy and messaging efforts.
