Steve Cortes, Founder of the League of American Workers, said that Americans are the primary workforce in every sector and dismissed the notion that some jobs are beneath U.S. citizens. This statement was made on X.

“Jobs Americans won’t do” is an obscene, elitist insult,” said Cortes. “Americans are the vast majority of the workforce in all sectors: agriculture, janitorial, waitstaff. Stop pretending that some jobs are not worthy, and start defending our fellow citizens!”

Recent studies by the Pew Research Center indicate that American citizen participation in sectors such as agriculture, janitorial services, and hospitality remains significantly lower than among immigrants. Factors such as low wages and challenging conditions contribute to making these jobs less appealing to U.S. citizens.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, only about 26% of crop farmworkers are U.S. citizens. Meanwhile, 55% of janitorial and housekeeping workers and approximately 70% of waitstaff are citizens, with the remainder being mostly foreign-born, as reported by the Economic Research Service.

The Migration Policy Institute reports that American citizen participation in low-wage and manual labor sectors has been declining for decades. Immigrant workers have increasingly filled roles in agriculture and hospitality that were once predominantly occupied by U.S. citizens.

Cortes is also a senior political advisor to CatholicVote and a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance. He is known for his commentary on Fox News and CNN and regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.
