Former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez announced raising $1 million in the first quarter of 2026 to challenge Eli Crane in Arizona’s Second Congressional District. The fundraising total was described as a significant achievement, indicating increased vulnerability for incumbent Crane.

Nez’s fundraising comes amid reports that Republican leaders are expressing concern about Crane’s seat. According to the announcement, Crane received nearly $600,000 from Washington party leaders, which was described as a first for him. The statement also said that Crane is particularly vulnerable this election cycle after voting to reduce health care funding in favor of tax cuts for billionaires, a decision claimed could lead to the closure of at least three hospitals in the district.

In February, Nez was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue list. This program provides organizational and fundraising support to selected candidates identified as having strong potential in competitive races.

DCCC spokesperson Lindsay Reilly said, “Arizonans are tired of Eli Crane jacking up their costs, slashing their health care, and selling out our veterans. They’re fired up to elect Jonathan Nez because they know he will actually fight for them.”

Further details about the campaign and candidate profiles can be found according to the official roster page.
