Catholic Law hosted Jack Kerrigan, co-founder and Managing Partner of Razor’s Edge Ventures, for a discussion on entrepreneurship and analytical thinking on March 20. The event was part of the Law and Entrepreneurship Program (LEP) and was moderated by Professor Alexander Hoffarth, Director of LEP. Students from both Catholic Law and the University’s Busch School of Business attended the session, which was co-sponsored by the Arthur & Carlyse Ciocca Center for Principled Entrepreneurship and the Law & Entrepreneurship Association.
The discussion focused on Kerrigan’s career in venture capital and technology, as well as the skills needed to succeed as an entrepreneur. When asked about his most valuable lesson from law school, Kerrigan said that analytical thinking has been crucial in evaluating new opportunities and learning from past challenges.
W. Brian Walsh, Director of the Arthur & Carlyse Ciocca Center for Principled Entrepreneurship, said, “The new collaboration with the LEP is giving aspiring Catholic University student entrepreneurs an incredible opportunity to learn critical aspects of law that pertain to their businesses.”
Students also shared their perspectives on the value of such events. Matt McDougal said, “As a law student interested in the intersection of law and entrepreneurship, it is invaluable to hear how great entrepreneurs took their law degree and leveraged what they learned to form successful businesses.”
Kerrigan’s background includes co-founding Razor’s Edge Ventures with a focus on investments in growth-stage technology and national security companies. His portfolio has generated over $1 billion in shareholder returns over five years. He also serves on several boards related to his investment work.
The partnership between Catholic Law programs aims to provide students with both legal knowledge and entrepreneurial skills needed for launching successful ventures.
