Independent Women has announced a change in venue for its “Her Game. Her Legacy.” celebration, originally planned to be held at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute (SFFMI). The event will now take place at the Inn and Spa at Loretto in Santa Fe on June 23, following allegations of discrimination and breach of contract by SFFMI.

The decision to relocate comes after Independent Women received notification from SFFMI three hours before their scheduled setup time that the venue would not honor their contract. The reason given was a disagreement with the message and intent of the event, despite SFFMI’s stated support for free speech.

Beth Parlato, senior legal advisor at Independent Women Law Center, described the situation as “blatant discrimination” and indicated that legal action might be pursued against SFFMI. She emphasized that Independent Women is committed to defending their rights to assemble and celebrate women’s achievements.

Victoria Coley, vice president for communication at Independent Women, clarified that “Her Game. Her Legacy.” is not a political or partisan event but rather a celebration of female athletes and Title IX. Coley criticized SFFMI’s cancellation as rooted in falsehoods and driven by bias.

The event will feature guest speakers including former New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and U.S. Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon, among others. It also marks the start of National Women’s Sports Week with a statewide bus tour across New Mexico.
