Independent Women has concluded its “Her Game. Her Legacy.” bus tour across New Mexico, celebrating the 53rd anniversary of Title IX. The week-long event spanned over 1,550 miles and visited all 33 counties in the state. The tour aimed to support women’s sports and spaces by engaging with athletes, coaches, parents, and communities.

The journey began on June 23 in Santa Fe during National Women’s Sports Week. It featured events honoring female athletes and included games, programs, and commemorative medallions. Participants had opportunities to share stories and sign the bus as part of a movement advocating for fairness in women’s sports.

Victoria Coley, vice president for communications at Independent Women, highlighted the significance of the event: “Independent Women’s ‘Her Game. Her Legacy.’ event and week-long bus tour gave New Mexican female athletes and their families something they’ve been denied for too long—a voice.” She emphasized that communities are uniting to demand fairness in women’s sports.

Brianna Howard from Independent Women noted the impact of the tour: “This week wasn’t just a road trip—it was a rallying cry. New Mexico’s communities—rural towns, big cities, athletes, parents—showed up.” She underscored that the legacy of women in New Mexico should be celebrated daily.

Coley also called for accountability from states and institutions not complying with Title IX’s original intent: “States and institutions that refuse to comply with Title IX’s original intent must be held accountable.”

The Trump administration recently took steps to enforce Title IX’s intent through actions by federal departments against California and Minnesota.

The tour included notable stops across various counties each day:

– Day 1: Launch in Santa Fe with guests like Linda McMahon.
– Day 2: Stops across northeastern New Mexico.
– Day 3: Visits in San Juan, Rio Arriba, and Los Alamos counties.
– Day 4: Meetings in southern counties including Deming and Las Cruces.

The final days will see visits to Bernalillo County among others before concluding at the University of New Mexico.
