The Heritage Foundation has issued statements following the recent U.S. military strikes that destroyed Iran’s three key nuclear facilities. Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action for America, emphasized the significance of President Trump’s decision to end the Iranian nuclear program. He noted, “What follows must not culminate in another regime-change quagmire. We learned that lesson in Iraq and President Trump was right to call out the failures of nation-building and military adventurism when running for president in 2016.”
Dr. Roberts also expressed gratitude towards the U.S. Armed Forces, stating, “Heritage is immensely thankful for the men and women in uniform who defend us every day—and who again reminded the world of the sheer power of America’s Armed Forces.”
Victoria Coates, vice president of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, highlighted the potential end to longstanding conflicts with Iran. She remarked, “President Trump is now on the cusp of ending one of the longest conflicts the United States has ever faced—the unrelenting attacks Iran’s Ayatollahs have launched against Americans since 1979.”
Coates further stated that this moment should not lead to broader conflict or nation building: “President Trump—as commander-in-chief of the world’s most lethal military—has demonstrated that the United States has complete dominance over Iran. Now that Iran’s self-defeating dreams of nuclear military power have been decimated, we are closer to peace.” She praised U.S. service members for their professionalism and bravery during these operations.
The Heritage Foundation continues to advocate for a strong defense policy while avoiding unnecessary wars or unfavorable agreements.
