Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Buddy Carter have announced a hearing on the Department of Health and Human Services’ budget for fiscal year 2026. The hearing, titled “The Fiscal Year 2026 Department of Health and Human Services Budget,” is scheduled for June 24, 2025, at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
“The recent passage of the OBBBA was an incredible example of how we are strengthening, securing, and sustaining our government health programs under President Trump,” said Chairmen Guthrie and Carter. “Next week’s hearing gives us the opportunity to examine ways in which we can further incorporate health innovation, expand access to affordable care, and make America healthy again.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services, will present the FY 2026 budget to the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health. The budget aligns with President Trump’s Make America Healthy Again agenda, focusing on fiscal responsibility, chronic disease prevention, and government efficiency.
Key priorities include a $1.8 billion annual savings through workforce reduction and consolidation of divisions within HHS. The budget also addresses rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and mental illness with $94 billion allocated for prevention programs.
Additional measures involve strengthening FDA oversight on food safety, maintaining funding for Medicare/Medicaid/CHIP while combating fraud, and refocusing CDC efforts on infectious diseases.
Kennedy emphasized restoring trust in HHS through “gold-standard science” and depoliticized policies as U.S. healthcare spending reached $4.9 trillion in 2024.
The hearing will be open to the public and press with a livestream available online.
