U.S. Term Limits (USTL), a nonpartisan group advocating for congressional term limits, has announced that Barry Wolfert, a candidate in Georgia’s 11th Congressional District, has signed its pledge supporting an amendment to limit terms for members of Congress. Previous candidates John Cowan and Chris Mora have also signed the pledge.

USTL President Philip Blumel commented on the growing support among candidates: “This strong support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to put self-interest aside to follow the will of the people. America needs a Congress that will be served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”

The USTL pledge asks signers to commit to cosponsoring and voting for an amendment that would set a maximum of three two-year terms for House members and two six-year terms for Senators.

Blumel noted increased public interest in term limits: “We have seen a dramatic increase in supporters wanting term limits on Congress. More than 87% of Americans have rejected the career politician model and want to replace it with citizen leadership. The way to achieve that goal is through congressional term limits.”

A recent Pew Research poll found that 87% of adults favor limiting congressional terms, with 56% expressing strong support and only 12% opposed.

Blumel concluded: “America is in trouble. Our career politicians have let the people down. It is time to return control of our nation to the people. It is time for a constitutional amendment limiting congressional terms.”

Amending the Constitution would require approval by two-thirds majorities in both chambers of Congress and ratification by 38 states.

U.S. Term Limits describes itself as the largest nonprofit organization focused solely on establishing term limits for Congress and does not endorse individual candidates.
