On June 28, the French Navy vessel Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai made its inaugural visit to American Samoa. The community was invited aboard for a reception and tour hosted by Captain Philippe Dumee. Among the attendees were Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula, First Lady, Miss American Samoa, US Coast Guard officers, and staff from Congresswoman Amata’s District Office.

Captain Dumee emphasized the importance of France’s partnerships in the Pacific region. He stated, “This ship between France and the Pacific is a symbol of our commitment to the region. We are truly grateful for the warm hospitality of our Samoan hosts and honored by the presence of our US Coast Guard partners. Our joint patrols and trainings enhance maritime security across these shared waters. Tonight, we will raise our glasses to friendship, shared purpose and partnership between French Polynesia, American Samoa, and the broader Pacific community.”

The vessel is named after Tahitian orator Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai who played a significant role in supporting Free France during historical changes within the French empire.

Following its visit to American Samoa, Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai will return to its homeport in Papeete, Tahiti.
