Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said that a recent 9th Circuit Court decision against sanctuary cities supports U.S. sovereignty and public safety priorities. This statement was made on the social media platform X.
“The 9th Circuit uses law and logic,” said Cortes. “Big deal — the seditionists of so-called “sanctuary” cities and states take a body shot from the Courts. The people overwhelmingly voted for US sovereignty and street safety. America First!”
In 2025, the 9th Circuit Court issued rulings preventing the federal government from withholding funds from sanctuary cities and states. According to Reuters, these decisions found such penalties unconstitutional and reinforced local authority over immigration enforcement. These rulings have limited the Trump administration’s ability to penalize jurisdictions like California for restricting cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
A study by the Migration Policy Institute revealed that 35 percent of Americans support sanctuary city policies, while 45 percent oppose federal interference with these policies. The Constitution Center reported strong partisan divides, with 77 percent of Republicans favoring federal restrictions and only 11 percent of Democrats in support.
Research cited by the National Immigration Law Center and Britannica indicates that sanctuary jurisdictions tend to have equal or lower crime rates compared to non-sanctuary areas. One analysis found 35.5 fewer crimes per 10,000 residents in sanctuary areas, contradicting claims that these policies compromise public safety.
