Independent Women Features has released the second part of a documentary featuring Claire Abernathy, a detransitioner, and her mother Carrie. The series, titled “Identity Crisis,” aims to highlight the impact of gender ideology on families.

The latest installment examines how parents can also become victims of radical gender ideology. In 2022, a directive from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton classified “gender-affirming care” for minors as child abuse. This led Carrie Abernathy to fear losing custody of her daughter.

Carrie recounted an incident at work where she was uncertain whether to report parents affirming their child’s transition. She realized that failure to report could result in criminal charges against her colleagues or herself.

The “Identity Crisis” series launched in 2022 to share stories from detransitioners and their families. It seeks to expose the dangers of gender ideology on young people in America.

Kaylee McGhee White, editor-in-chief of Independent Women Features, stated: “Carrie and Claire Abernathy’s story is an important reminder that parents can be victims of gender ideology just as much as vulnerable children.” She emphasized the need for policies targeting industries promoting gender ideology rather than punishing parents.

Neeraja Deshpande, policy analyst for Independent Women, highlighted the emotional pressure faced by parents: “The psychological manipulation that is standard practice in pediatric gender medicine not only destroys children—it destroys entire families.”

Andrea Mew, managing editor and documentary producer for Independent Women Features, said: “In part two of Claire and Carrie’s story, IW Features is shining a light on the heartbreaking reality facing so many parents.”

The documentary series covers various personal accounts from detransitioners and their struggles with medical interventions related to gender identity.
