The regulatory landscape for cybersecurity has experienced notable shifts over the past year, influenced by changes in presidential administration. The Trump administration has adopted a more nuanced approach to cyber oversight and risk management compared to the previous Biden administration. This new direction does not signal a reduction in oversight but instead allows greater influence from market forces within the information security sector.
Haiman Wong, resident fellow specializing in cybersecurity and emerging threats at the R Street Institute, commented on these developments: “Rather than uniformly pulling back or pursuing broad regulatory expansion, the government is continuing to assess where clearer expectations, coordination, or enforcement are warranted in response to a dynamic threat landscape.”
