Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata honored American Samoa’s senior citizens during a gathering at the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA) Center in Washington, D.C., as part of the Older Americans Month 2026 celebration. She joined Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula and TAOA staff to highlight the value, trust, and respect held for elders in the community.

In her remarks delivered in Samoan, Amata said, “Longevity of life stands as a testament to divine grace for those who revere God. Your careful guidance protects and shapes the next generation. Thank you for your continuous prayers and unwavering support to our country’s collective responsibilities.” She added, “Our senior citizens are a profound gift, anchoring our nations and lighting up the entire world with their lifelong wisdom. Led by wisdom they approach, shielded by prudence they find refuge, and stilled by patience they dwell in peace.”

Amata also extended congratulations to Director Paopao, Deputy Director Seumanutafa, Reverend Fetaia’i Fui, and especially the TAOA staff for their service to elderly residents. “We are deeply grateful for your exemplary service and compassionate dedication to our elderly community,” she said.

The Congresswoman acknowledged ongoing efforts regarding renewed vouchers related to the hot meal program for seniors. She stated her intention to continue working on this issue in Washington, while collaborating with Director Paopao and local government officials to support program funding for TAOA.

Amata encouraged constituents with questions about these or other issues throughout the year to contact her office in Fagatogo.
