Congressman Brett Guthrie and Congressman Richard Hudson have announced a hearing on artificial intelligence and communications infrastructure. The event, titled “AI in the Everyday: Current Applications and Future Frontiers in Communications and Technology,” will take place on June 4, 2025, at 10:30 AM ET in the Rayburn House Office Building.

Chairmen Guthrie and Hudson emphasized the importance of reliable networks for supporting AI innovations. They said, “Artificial intelligence is launching our economy into a new American golden age marked by development and opportunity, but these increasingly dynamic industries need certainty that our networks can support the future of artificial intelligence and its applications.”

The hearing will be open to the public and press, with a livestream available online. For inquiries regarding the hearing or press-related questions, contact Noah Jackson or Daniel Kelly via their provided email addresses.

Charles (Chip) W. Pickering Jr.’s written testimony highlights an AI race against China, comparing it to past nuclear and space races. He stresses modernization and federal leadership as key solutions. Pickering advocates for AI adoption within government to achieve savings and efficiency, noting progress with $500 million allocated for AI modernization through H.R. 1.

Pickering also calls for a federal strategy to ensure national predictability over state-level uncertainties in AI systems. He suggests a temporary pause on state AI laws to allow Congress to develop a cohesive federal strategy.

He further emphasizes the need for permitting reform to facilitate broadband network deployment necessary for AI applications. A competitive approach across various technologies is recommended to maintain America’s leadership in AI.

INCOMPAS has been active since 1982 in promoting open networks and markets. Through its AI Competition Center launched in 2023, INCOMPAS aims to engage in policy development during this critical era.

In conclusion, INCOMPAS expresses eagerness to collaborate with Congress and other stakeholders to establish a national framework for AI.
