The House of Representatives and the Senate are currently in recess, with lawmakers back in their districts and states. They are scheduled to return to Washington on September 2. One of the key issues awaiting them is government funding, which is set to expire at the end of the fiscal year.

Recent discussions have focused on the United States Census, following comments from the President about possibly conducting a new count. Topics such as differential privacy and apportionment have also come up in public discourse.

To help clarify these issues, Eric Teetsel, CEO of the Center for Renewing America, and Wade Miller, Senior Advisor at the Center for Renewing America, provided their perspectives on current Census debates.

Additional recent commentary includes an article from the Center for Renewing America that claims “The Census Bureau is Defrauding American Voters.” Other topics discussed this week include a report from State Leadership Initiative titled “Shadow Government Report,” coverage by The Federalist regarding protests outside its office in Washington D.C., and an article by The Post Millennial addressing concerns about safety in Washington D.C.
