While prominent figures such as George Soros, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg are well-known for their political contributions, Arabella Advisors remains less familiar to the public. Described as a secretive “dark money” operation, Arabella channels funds from major donors into leftist political causes through groups that appear as grassroots organizations.

In the 2020 election cycle, Arabella’s nonprofits collected $2.4 billion, surpassing the combined fundraising efforts of both the Democratic and Republican National Committees. By the 2022 election cycle, this figure had increased to $3 billion.

Scott Walter’s book sheds light on Arabella’s significant influence in various areas including Supreme Court nominations, abortion debates, women’s sports, school discipline policies, Medicare for All discussions, environmental issues, and more. The Atlantic describes Arabella as “the indisputable heavyweight of Democratic dark money,” while Politico refers to it as a “dark-money behemoth.” The New York Times highlights its role in channeling “hundreds of millions of dollars through a daisy chain of groups supporting Democrats and progressive causes.”

Walter suggests that people across different political views may be surprised by how Arabella has developed an extensive “dark money” network.
