Dennis Coyle, an American researcher from Colorado, was reunited with his family after being held for more than a year by the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to a statement released on March 25.

The release of Coyle highlights ongoing efforts by the United States government to secure the freedom of its citizens detained abroad. His return follows President Trump’s earlier pledge to address what he called Mr. Coyle’s unjust detention.

According to the statement, “In January, President Trump vowed to take a strong stand on Mr. Coyle’s unjust detention. This morning, Mr. Coyle stepped off a plane and embraced his loved ones — proof that when President Trump makes a commitment, he delivers.” The statement also said that under President Trump’s administration, several Americans have been freed through diplomatic efforts.

The details surrounding how negotiations led to Coyle’s release were not disclosed in the announcement. However, officials emphasized that such actions reflect a policy of not leaving American citizens behind during international crises or detentions.

Coyle’s return is part of broader U.S. diplomatic initiatives aimed at bringing home Americans detained overseas. The administration said it remains committed to these efforts moving forward.
