Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata announced on Apr. 9 that the LBJ Tropical Medical Center has received a health services partnership grant to support Emergency Medical Services for Children, with funds designated to the American Samoa Medical Center Authority.
The grant is a discretionary continuation award of $43,446 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Health Resources and Services Administration. The funding aims to enhance pediatric emergency services in American Samoa.
In her statement, Congresswoman Amata said, “Thank you Lata Allen for the efforts involved in this grant, and the pediatric emergency services it supports. Thank you as always to everyone involved in fulfilling federal qualifications to receive the funds that Congress appropriates.”
Amata also acknowledged local and federal leaders who contributed to securing this funding. “Thank you to the administration of Governor Pulaali’i Nikolao Pula and Lt. Gov. Pulumataala Ae Ae, Jr., as well as HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and HRSA Administrator Thomas Engels,” she said.
This latest grant continues ongoing efforts by local officials and healthcare administrators to improve medical care for children in American Samoa.
