Amanda McKinney, a candidate for Washington’s 4th Congressional District, has signed a pledge supporting an amendment to limit terms for members of Congress. U.S. Term Limits (USTL), a nonpartisan group advocating for term limits, announced her decision on March 5, 2026. Previous candidates John Duresky and Jerrod Sessler have also signed the pledge.

According to USTL President Philip Blumel, “This strong support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to put self-interest aside to follow the will of the people. America needs a Congress that will be served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”

The pledge states: “I pledge that as a member of Congress, I will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) two-year House terms and two (2) six-year Senate terms and no longer limit.”

Blumel added, “We have seen a dramatic increase in supporters wanting term limits on Congress. More than 87% of Americans have rejected the career politician model and want to replace it with citizen leadership. The way to achieve that goal is through congressional term limits.”

A recent Pew Research poll found that 87% of adults favor limiting congressional terms, with 56% strongly supporting the proposal and only 12% opposed.

Blumel concluded, “America is in trouble. Our career politicians have let the people down. It is time to return control of our nation to the people. It is time for a constitutional amendment limiting congressional terms.”

To amend the Constitution with these term limits would require approval from two-thirds of both houses of Congress and ratification by 38 states.

U.S. Term Limits describes itself as the largest nonpartisan nonprofit focused solely on imposing term limits on Congress. The organization aims to create a legislature made up of citizens rather than long-term politicians and does not endorse individual candidates.
