The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has announced the appointment of Rear Admiral (USCG, Ret.) Peter J. Brown as Senior Fellow for Western Hemisphere Security and Maritime Affairs. Brown joins the Western Hemisphere Initiative with extensive experience in national security and international engagement.

Brown, a former Deputy Assistant to President Trump for National Security Affairs, has had a distinguished career in the U.S. Coast Guard. His work has included commanding operations across key regions such as the Caribbean and Pacific approaches to the United States, as well as coordinating federal disaster response efforts in Puerto Rico.

Joshua Treviño, Senior Fellow for the Western Hemisphere Initiative at AFPI, remarked on Brown’s appointment: “Pete Brown has spent his entire career standing the watch for our nation—defending our borders, confronting transnational threats, and forging the kind of strategic partnerships that keep our people safe and our nation sovereign.” Treviño emphasized that Brown’s role will strengthen AFPI’s mission to reassert U.S. leadership in the hemisphere.

In his new position, Brown will focus on advancing maritime and regional security within AFPI’s framework. His responsibilities include countering influences from communist China and transnational criminal organizations while promoting U.S. sovereignty and regional stability. Operating from South Florida, he will collaborate with military, law enforcement, academic, and diplomatic institutions.

Brown expressed his commitment to this mission by stating: “It is an honor to join the patriotic team at AFPI and to contribute to reasserting United States leadership in the Western Hemisphere.” He criticized past foreign policies for neglecting relationships with neighboring nations and praised the initiative’s focus on restoring these ties.

The Western Hemisphere Initiative under AFPI aims to challenge previous foreign policies that have weakened U.S. borders and allowed hostile powers increased influence. With leaders like Rear Admiral Brown onboard, AFPI is focused on ensuring homeland defense begins within its own region.
